Traditions

The MSL Community celebrates a number of special events each year.  These traditions provide important opportunities to come together as families with each other and share in the spirit of Montessori.


Back to School Potluck

All MSL students, their parents and extended families are invited to this PTO kick-off event. Bring blankets, folding chairs and a dish to share for this outdoor picnic event held at E. P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park near the school.  Students and adults visit, play games, eat and enjoy each other's company.  New parents are welcomed to our community.


Harvest Celebration

Each individual classroom celebrates the season of harvest together while avoiding the commercialization of Halloween.  Room parents and parent volunteers assist the teachers in planning and implementing these special occasions, and can include in-class crafts or cooking activities followed by sharing a special treat made by the students' own hands.


Holiday Performance

All MSL students perform with their classmates in this annual evening musical program.  The annual theme of the event is peace and celebrating the multi-cultural traditions of our community members.  All parents, grandparents and extended family are invited to attend.  Performances have been held at the beautiful new Sawyer-Hayes facility within E. P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.  Due to increasing audience numbers, we are seeking an alternative performance venue for the 2011 Holiday Performance.  


Earth Day Celebration

All MSL families are invited and this event serves as our annual alumni reunion celebration.  MSL community volunteers lead games, activities aimed at highlighting Montessori's core value of environmental stewardship.  This event is open to the public and serves as a significant fundraiser for our school's PTO.  Featuring "green" vendors, live music, arts & crafts and inflatables for children.  Food vendors include Whole Foods Market, Louisville and CakeFlour on Market.  This outdoor event is held at E. P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park with access to the gymnasium in the event of rain or inclement weather.


Graduation

MSL hosts a special ceremony for students who graduate from the MSL Middle School Program to transition into high school.  The event features student performances and a reception with light refreshments.


End of Year Picnic  

All MSL students, their parents and extended families are invited.  Bring blankets, folding chairs and your own picnic lunch for this End of the Year celebration held at E. P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park, Shelter #1.  Students and adults play games, eat and enjoy each other's company.
